Third Thursday – Streaming

August 20, 2020 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

The subject of this month’s lecture and demonstration will be on the styling of an iconic Southeast species: The American hornbeam, Carpinus caroliniana
A little information and history on the tree:
American hornbeam
Species: Carpinus caroliniana
Age: ~20-30 years
Years in Training: soon!
Height: currently 74″
Nebari: 21″
Canopy: currently 67″
This tree was collected in 2018 by Benson Green. It is currently the largest American hornbeam we have at the nursery. Some “minor” carving has already been done to the chop by Doug earlier this year. The word minor is used lightly as the chop is 6″ at it’s widest. The carving on the chop is actually showing signs of beginning to heal over. Once the tree is styled by Evan it very much could be the second largest bonsai at the nursery right behind “Loup Garou”, the bald cypress from last month’s demonstration.
