Prized by the nobles of Japan centuries ago for their beautiful blooms, the first satsuki azaleas where collected from the northern mountainous ranges of Japan and bought into cultivation around the 14th century. Sakzuki azaleas have a naturally dwarfed form suited perfectly for bonsai. Satsuki means “5th” month” referring to the time of year in which they open their flowers. A great species for the beginners new to the craft! Satsuki azalea prefer part shade and cool temperatures and their range is 7-9.
